A Rainy Day in Georgia

I sat across the window on a small, cozy couch in a little café that I discovered while wandering around the quiet streets of Tbilisi while it poured heavily. I started with a small meal — a scrumptious lentil soup followed by a wholesome plate of cheesy pasta. And finally, I asked for a cup of hot chocolate to complement the weather.

As I sipped my drink, I looked around. Right in front of me, the raindrops hit the beautifully decorated window, which was also surrounded by small, fresh plants with fairy lights all around them. Even though the weather was about -1 degrees, the sound of raindrops falling on the window gave me a sense of warmth.

On the couch beside me sat a beautiful young woman reading a novel that had the word ‘Christmas’ in the title. She looked happy, enjoying her time alone, which somehow reminded me of myself. Adjacent to me was an elderly couple, holding hands and whispering in each other’s ears as they held onto their freshly-brewed coffee mugs. Outside, I noticed a young man offering his umbrella to a woman who smiled back at him flirtatiously.

And at that very moment, I smiled and thought about what it’s like to stop running around in this busy world and notice the little things and moments around you. That day, everyone around me felt at peace. They were not running around. They just slowed down and enjoyed a rainy day with the people and things that they admire.

And with that train of thought, I went back to my hot chocolate and enjoyed my view of raindrops splashing across the window, slowly turning into little snowflakes.
